What is the most important information I should know about BRILINTA?
BRILINTA is used to reduce the chance of having a heart attack or death from heart attack or stroke, but BRILINTA (and similar drugs) can cause bleeding, which can be serious and sometimes fatal. Do not stop taking BRILINTA, without consulting with a doctor who prescribes a torus you. People who are treated with the stent, and stop taking BRILINTA too early to have a higher risk of developing blood clots in the stent, heart attack or death. If you stop BRILINTA because of bleeding or other reasons, the risk of heart attack or stroke may increase. When instructed the doctor, you should stop taking BRILINTA 5 days before you are scheduled operation. This will help reduce the risk of bleeding from your surgery or procedure. Your doctor should tell you when to start taking BRILINTA again, as soon as possible after surgery.
Taking aspirin with BRILINTA
BRILINTA taken with aspirin. Talk to your doctor about the dose of aspirin, you should take BRILINTA. You should not take aspirin dose of 100 mg per day, as it may affect how well BRILINTA work. Do not take doses of aspirin higher than what your doctor tells you to take. Tell your doctor if you are taking other medications containing aspirin, and not taking new over-medication with aspirin in them.
What is BRILINTA?
BRILINTA is a prescription medication used to treat people who:
• had a recent heart attack or severe chest pain that was because their heart is not getting enough oxygen.
• you have had a heart attack or chest pain and being treated with medications or a procedure to open blocked arteries in the heart.
BRILINTA use aspirin to reduce the likelihood of another serious problem with your heart or blood vessels, such as heart attack, stroke or blood clots in your stent. They can be fatal. Platelets are blood cells that help with normal blood clotting. BRILINTA prevents platelets from sticking together and forming clots that can block the artery.
It is not known if BRILINTA is safe and works in children.
Who should not take BRILINTA?
Do not take BRILINTA, if you:
• are currently bleeding
• have a history of brain hemorrhage
• You have bleeding from the stomach or intestine into the present (ulcer)
• have severe liver problems
When instructed the doctor, you should stop taking BRILINTA 5 days before you are scheduled operation. This will help reduce the risk of bleeding from your surgery or procedure. Your doctor should tell you when to start taking BRILINTA again, as soon as possible after surgery.
What should I tell my doctor before taking BRILINTA?
Before taking BRILINTA, tell your doctor if you:
• have bleeding problems in the past
• have all the latest serious injury or surgery
• A plan to have surgery or dental procedures
• have a history of stomach or colon polyps
• have lung problems such as COPD or asthma
• have liver problems
• have a stroke
• are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if BRILINTA will harm your unborn baby. You and your doctor should decide if you’ll take BRILINTA.
• are breastfeeding. It is not known if BRILINTA goes into your breast milk. You and your doctor should decide if you’ll take BRILINTA or breast-feeding. You should not do both without consulting your doctor.
Tell all your doctors and dentists that you are taking BRILINTA. They should talk to your doctor who prescribed BRILINTA for you before you have surgery or invasive procedures.
Tell your doctor about all medicines you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements. BRILINTA may affect other medicines and other medicines may affect BRILINTA work. Especially tell your doctor if you are taking:
• HIV-AIDS medicine
• medicines for heart disease or high blood pressure
• medicine for high blood cholesterol levels
• antifungal medicines by mouth
• anti-seizure medicine
• a blood thinner medicine
• rifampicin (Rifater, Rifamate, Rimactane, Rifadin)
Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure if your medicine is listed above.
Know the medicines you take. Keep a list of them to show your doctor and pharmacist when you get a new medicine.
How should I take BRILINTA?
• Take BRILINTA strictly on prescription.
• Your doctor will tell you how many tablets to take BRILINTA, and when to take them.
• Take a low dose BRILINTA (100 mg daily) aspirin. You can take BRILINTA with or without food.
• Take a dose of BRILINTA around the same time each day.
• If you forget to take a scheduled dose of BRILINTA, take your next dose at the scheduled time. Do not take two doses at the same time unless your doctor tells you.
• If you take too much or BRILINTA overdose, call your doctor or poison control center immediately, or go to the nearest emergency room.
What are the possible side effects BRILINTA?
BRILINTA can cause serious side effects, including:

• Shortness of breath. Call your doctor if you have new or sudden shortness of breath when you’re alone at night or when you are doing any work. Your doctor may decide that treatment is needed.
Tell your doctor if you have any side effect that you do not like or that does not go away.
